About the Symposium

The aim of the workshop is to catalyze collaboration on environmental challenges between the University of Connecticut (UConn), municipalities, utilities and other local organizations. The Environmental Engineering (ENVE) program offers resources in the form or personnel, knowledge, modeling capabilities and chemical analysis that could benefit the local community. The ENVE desires to support Connecticut communities and promote community well-being. Opportunities exist for partnership in the form of ENVE undergraduate Senior Design and Senior Thesis, graduate-level projects, and analytical support. Local stakeholders can utilize these opportunities to address environmental challenges in their communities. Given the current economic situation, these existing ENVE programs offer the local community an affordable option to address critical issues that otherwise would be put off or not examined. Educationally, these collaborations provide valuable real-world experience for ENVE students.

Objectives of the Symposium

* Develop collaborative relationship between UConn and the local community

* Obtain measure of local community interest in partnering with EPP

* Promote economic, technical and educational benefits of working with ENVE

* Foster student opportunities (education and future employees)

* Generate interest in UConn ENVE research capabilities

Symposium Outcomes

* Outline ENVE resources and capabilities

* Provide examples of prior ENVE projects

* Identify potential collaborations

* Develop a methodology for partnership between the community and ENVE

Who Should Attend this Symposium

The ENVE expertise and course focus suits projects involving an array of environmental issues, but primarily water quantity and quality.

Among those who may be interested in attending this workshop are:

* Town Engineers, Managers, Wetland Agents, Recreation Directors
