The 2011 Connecticut Emergency Management Symposium is devoted to strengthening collaboration among local, regional, and state officials.
The Connecticut Emergency Management Symposium is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM), the CT Dept. of Emergency Management & Homeland Security (DEMHS), and the CT Dept. of Public Health (DPH). The Symposium brings together federal, state, and local government officials and personnel who participate in a unique, day-long opportunity to share experiences and learn the latest information on this vital topic.
The keynote address will focus on the 10th Anniversary of Sept. 11 - how that tragic event changed our lives forever; hear the personal story of a New York firefighter who was recognized as one of the major heros.
Breakout sessions:
- Children in Disasters - child safety and crisis response: Commission on Children.
- Presidential Declaration Overview - the role of municipal CEOs and how emergencies are declared.
- Hurricane Preparedness - hear directly from the National Hurricane Center specialist.
- National Medical Reserve Corps - the civilian volunteer: hear why they do what they do and how.
- Incident Management Teams - hear how Texas handled a major situation.
Attendance is limited to the first 400 registrants and
registration is required to attend.
Exhibition:
Vendors in emergency management and homeland security will be on hand to assist and discuss your planning and response needs. Exhibits include: Communications, Data Protection, Engineering, Environmental Services, IT, GIS, and much more.
Outside Displays -- Front Parking Lot
In addition to the vendors inside the facility - there will be displays outside, featuring Connecticut's most valuable disaster-response assets. Guided tours of each team's equipment and capabilities will be available throughout the day. Local officials will witness first-hand the tremendous resources these teams can provide, and more importantly, how to utilize these resources during an emergency.
